Summer Strawberry
Posted by Dan BrownMONDAY 2 JUNE 2008
It seems like the heat is on with summer officially starting as temperature averages around 70F these past few days. Heaters are now officially redundant and sale of fans increases once again.
To keep your cool this summer, I recommend heading down to Cracker Barrels in Urbana near I-74 for that sugary sweet icy treat that you very well deserve.

Cracker Barrel Icebox pies are what you need. Their strawberry pies are made with REAL fresh strawberries with a graham cracker crust and topped with some nice whipped cream. Absolutely delicious. The pie isn’t too overwhelmingly sweet and the cool feeling of biting into one is just so heavenly. The juicy strawberry also makes it sooooo yummy.
Head over to Cracker Barrels right now near Cunninghams and I-74 for that cool summer strawberry treat you deserve. (just for your information, this sweet delight is only available during summer so don’t wait anymore!) I’m going to go buy one more now!
Get Ready for the Marathon
Posted by Dan BrownSUNDAY 1 JUNE 2008
For those drivers in Urbana Champaign, besides the cost of gas rising above $4 in the past weeks, we see a new drastic change in our pumps in this area. Marathon is taking over the world!

Recently, for some weird reason, all the BP gas stations have been converted to marathon gas station, even the speedway gas station on Lincoln near I-74 has been converted. Now, what’s up with Marathon taking over this area’s BP? Being a BP card member with discounts on BP gas, this news generally inconvenienced me A GREAT DEAL since now I can’t get my BP gas!!! I have no idea why the companies decided to do the swap nor do the various people that works at the gas station that I spoke to knows the reason. However, if anyone of you that still want to pump BP gas, the only remaining green pump is down at philo, right outside county market.
Go Green.
Why is Finding a Good Chinese Buffet So Crazy Difficult?
Posted by Dan BrownSATURDAY 31 MAY 2008
I have had my fair share of Chinatown Buffet down along Prospect Avenue, Champaign and also have heard of the crazy alternative, Crazy Buffet. However, for most part of my experience, the food usually sucks and they taste really horrible. I would like to give some explanation for that.
- You are paying too little!!! For a little more than $12, you are expecting big snow crab legs, steak, unlimited shrimp, pork and beef, sushi, general tso’s chicken and what not? Think about it. Is this price possible when a decent 10oz sirloin at Texas Roadhouse cost like almost $20?
- It is not possible to cook in bulk and still taste nice. Good things comes in small quantity. If anyone has been in the military and has eaten food that’s cooked for the whole camp, you will know how shit taste like. Same reasoning. The logic: the more quantity, the less quality. Vice Versa.
- The buffet restaurants are trying too hard. Sushi= Chinese? Steak=Chinese? Give me a break! You know it, I know it. They don’t exist in Chinese cuisines. So why are the Chinese buffet restaurants selling them? Because they want to attract and cater to as many different taste palates as possible. The outcome? Bad tasting food for all.
There are actually quite a number of other reasons but I’m sure everyone can conjure up their own alternative explanation. But there you go, why is finding a good Chinese buffet so crazy difficult.
Which came first, Le Chicken or Le Eggs?
Posted by Dan BrownFRIDAY 30 MAY 2008
Answer: Le peeps. If you have been to Le peeps near Savoy, you would have seen this sign welcoming you at the door, especially when you’re there waiting for the hostess to seat you. Indeed, this eatery is so popular in the champaign-urbana area that you might have to wait up to twenty minutes for your breakfast fix. Also, unlike other restaurants that will seat you immediately, this restaurant only seat your party when everyone has arrived.
However, your time spent waiting will be definitely worth it. They have a variety of delicious breakfast items, including pancakes, peasant potatoes and omelets. My favorite is their poached eggs which are made to perfection. They also serve freshly squeezed juice to start your day right.
Open early in the morning till noon, this place is definitely the place for an breakfast or an early lunch.
What is the best pizza joint in CU?
Posted by Dan BrownTUHRSDAY 29 MAY 2008
In my opinion, definitely the best pizza joint is out of this world in Jupiters! Yes, jupitars pizza is definitely one of the better pizza joints around. The uniquely thin crust is different from your daily papa dels pizza and the generous toppings on the pizza is a plus.
Stop by on Tuesdays after 8pm for their ½ off special. Chill out with your friends over a game of pool or catch a game of baseball and down a few bottles of beer, together with that out of the world pizza in Jupiters.
